About me
Dr. Kristina P. Vatcheva is an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) College of Sciences. She has training and experience in mathematics, computer programming/application development, biostatistics, and epidemiology across academia and industry.
Her research bridges biostatistics, epidemiology, and data science, focusing on modeling of chronic diseases and health disparities. With more than 15 years of collaborative research, Dr. Vatcheva extensively addresses metabolic, cardiovascular, and mental health risks, exploring comorbidities such as diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, subclinical atherosclerosis, liver disease, depression, cognitive decline, and hypertension, often linking these conditions to social determinants and health disparities particularly among the Mexican American population in the Rio Grande Valley.
